Moderation management

Tools for in-flight moderation

Moderators and admins can manage messages in real time through the admin panel. All their actions can be tracked

Main tools:

  • Feed with all messages
  • Feed in separate rooms
  • Bans
  • Reports

All messages feed

All messages users send in chats are gathered here in real-time. Even if thousands of rooms are open on the platform simultaneously, moderators can see all messages from them here. Every message has two content menus. The one applied by clicking on the avatar shows the following actions: ban the user in one room or all rooms available on the platform, check all messages sent to all rooms on the platform, and make a user a room moderator.

The context menu that appears when clicking the message shows other actions: adding the users to a shadow ban (Hide user's all messages), refusing the shadow ban (Show user's all messages), viewing the reactions to the message, and entering the particular room where this message was sent.

If you add the user to a shadow ban, all the messages sent when they are in a shadow ban are hidden. If you cancel the shadow ban, new messages will be visible, but hidden messages will remain invisible.

You can manage users who were added to the shadow ban in the specific section in Moderation.

The context menu that appears when clicking the user avatar allows you to check the history of the user's messages, hide them all, show them all again, turn them into moderators, and ban them—in a room (Block in a room) or all rooms available on the platform (Block).

If you select the Ban option (both in a room or all rooms), you need to choose the reason for banning and the period for the ban (after finishing this period, the user will be unbanned automatically). Also, you can add a comment.

If you select the reason Forbidden nickname, you don't need to specify the period of banning. In this case, this used will be blocked until they change the nickname (the user will get the notification and the filed for changing nickname will be opened). After saving a new nickname, they will be unblocked automatically.

When you ban a user, they are notified about the reason and the period (when they be unblocked). Also, you can add an email (Settings// Email), and they will be able to send the claim there (from the chat interface).

All bans and information abouth them (who was banned, when, why, whi banned) will be shown and can be managed in the Moderions// Bans section. Finished bans are shown in the Moderarion//Bans archive.

The feed can be split into two streams to allow two moderators to work with the same feed simultaneously, not affecting each other. To do so, click the setting button in the upper right corner of the page.

The hide button near every message hides messages from all users in a chat except the sender and moderators.

All actions have their opposite ones: when moderators hide a message, they can unhide it; when they ban a user, they can unban them, and so on.

The room's feed

All actions on the All messages feed are also available in separate rooms. However, there are many other tools and settings to manage separate rooms.

Switch mode

This mode allows moderators to see the chat interface inside the admin panel. Moderators can communicate through this mode and also see the chat as users see it.

Generate a room link

You can generate a link to the room and create a new user entity. This user will have an artificial user ID but won't differ from others in a chat.

User counter

If you can turn it off for a chat interface, you can always see the number of participants through the admin panel. The counter updates in real-time. By clicking it, you can see the list of users online and manage them, for example, block, moderate or assign a speaker role.

Admin's message placeholder

You can send messages to a chat from the admin's account. These messages can be pinned and edited.

Room's settings

You can edit the room (title, start and end name, link to the video or live stream) and change its states to in-air, soon, or ended. Also, you can activate an opportunity to speak in a room here and activate slow mode for this particular room.

Bans

Moderators and admins can ban users from all messages or room feeds, and reports.

There are two types of banning: in a room or in all rooms available on the platform. It's necessary to select a reason for and duration for the ban. Additionally, moderators can add a comment to a ban (it is possible to add a comment later). All reasons for banning have the same flow except 'forbidden nickname'. If moderators block a user for the nickname, the user don't need to select a ban duration: they will blocked until they change the nickname.

All bans are gathered in the admin panel: current bans—in the section Moderation>Bans; ended bans— Moderation>Bans Archive. You can see there who was banned, who created this ban, when, the ban's type, reason, and duration. It is possible to add a comment there anytime. You can find a banned user there with their userID or nickname.

If you need more data about the creation of bans, open Reports>Data export and download the list of bans for the period. The list will also include messages about banned users.

Reports

The Reports section gathers all reports users send. The number near the section indicates the number of unseen reports.

Moderators and admins can hide reported messages, block their authors, and close reports. Closing should be the last action because it's impossible to reopen it afterwards. By clicking the message or room (blue text), you can go to the room where this message was sent.

All closed reports are kept in the Report archive. It's visible which moderator or admin closed them.

When a new automatic ban appears, moderators can accept or decline them. Before one of these actions, the users will be banned for the reason "because of users' claims."
